Volumetric Precision
Precision manufacturing systems for oil-filled sensors require the injection of specific volumes of fluid within a few millionths of a liter. This micro-dosing tolerance defines the acceptable deviation from the target fill volume. It ensures that every sensor in a production run has the same thermal expansion characteristics.
The limit is often set by the total volume of the internal cavity.
Delivery Accuracy
Automated pumps must dispense the oil without introducing air or losing fluid to evaporation. If the micro-dosing tolerance is exceeded, the sensor will exhibit excessive zero drift or reduced sensitivity. The pump resolution must be significantly higher than the tolerance itself.
Surface Tension
Small droplets of oil can cling to the injection needle and alter the final volume. Managing micro-dosing tolerance involves controlling the speed of the needle and the viscosity of the oil. This is especially difficult with high viscosity silicone fluids used for dampening.
Verification Method
Gravimetric analysis of the sensor before and after filling confirms that the correct amount of fluid was added. This micro-dosing tolerance check is performed on a high precision balance in a clean room environment. Any unit that fails this check is drained and refilled.
