Front End
Signal conditioning circuitry operates upstream of analog-to-digital conversion within specialized measurement hardware. A resonant inductive front end uses parallel LC topology to match high source impedances and suppress out-of-band interference before sampling occurs. Primary calibration parameters include quality factor magnitude, resonant frequency offset, and phase linearity across the passband.
Uncompensated thermal drift in the core permeability alters inductance values, shifting the center frequency and introducing gain errors into the conditioned voltage output.
Circuit Impedance
Bridge balancing depends on precise impedance matching between the sensor coil and the input stage. Resistance variations within the copper winding alter the damping factor, which directly degrades signal-to-noise ratios during low-level transient capture. Manufacturers specify excitation voltages at standardized reference terminals to eliminate supply variations from factory verification records.
Environmental magnetic fields induce circulating currents in nearby metallic chassis elements, generating parasitic mutual inductance that distorts phase measurements at high frequencies.
Core Saturation
Permeability decreases under high excitation amplitudes, shifting the operating point into nonlinear regions of the B-H curve. Harmonic distortion increases when core excitation exceeds manufacturer design limits, invalidating harmonic rejection metrics established during initial metrological qualification. Operators verify linearity limits by injecting stepped test currents while monitoring total harmonic distortion across the secondary terminals.
Calibration Drift
Aging of ferrite materials alters initial permeability over extended operational lifetimes, requiring periodic recalibration against traceable impedance standards. Temperature compensation networks mitigate baseline shifts by pairing positive temperature coefficient resistors with negative temperature coefficient inductors in the feedback loop. Verification certificates list exact phase angle deviations measured at nominal operating frequencies under controlled laboratory ambient conditions.
