Corrosive Protection
High alloy extension tubes protect sensitive sensor electronics from harsh process conditions and aggressive chemicals. Utilizing a Hastelloy neck in a temperature or pressure transmitter provides high resistance to corrosion and pitting in the critical junction zone. This material choice isolates the delicate transducer housing from hostile measurement media.
Structural Integration
Fabricating the isolation sleeve from nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys allows the sensor assembly to withstand aggressive acids and chlorides under high pressures. This tube is welded securely between the process flange and the transmitter housing to act as a physical standoff. The thin walls of the tube minimize material use while ensuring sufficient strength to maintain a pressure seal under extreme stress.
This configuration prevents hazardous process fluids from escaping into the environment while maintaining the sensor at a safe distance from the process pipe.
Thermal Gradient
Heat conduction along the metallic pathway can raise the transmitter housing temperature beyond the rated limit for the internal circuitry. High process temperatures force heat up the alloy extension, creating a thermal gradient that must be managed by passive dissipation. If the ambient air flow is restricted or the extension is fully insulated, the temperature rise at the electronics enclosure can cause measuring errors.
Mechanical Integrity
Pressure testing of the welded junction confirms that the alloy extension can withstand the design limits of the process line. Engineers perform non destructive testing, including dye penetrant or radiographic inspection, to verify the weld quality before the instrument leaves the factory. This rigorous check guarantees the mechanical safety of the transmitter during high temperature and high pressure operations.
