Calculation Method
Digital manipulation of device identifiers uses an exclusive-OR function to modify the base address of a component. An xor address offset applies a bitwise comparison between a fixed value and a programmable register to generate a unique communication handle. Addressing flexibility provides a way to distribute identities across a network without requiring unique hardware pins for every bit.
Algorithmic Modification
Software commands change the effective identity of a sensor by updating an internal offset register. The xor address offset results in a bit becoming a one if the two corresponding input bits are different and a zero if they are the same. Calculation logic allows a controller to shift a device to a new address space to avoid conflicts with newly added hardware.
Operation is predictable and reversible.
Integration Strategy
Large arrays of identical sensors utilize this feature to simplify system mapping. The xor address offset allows for the logical grouping of devices based on their function or location. Logical organization reduces the complexity of the master’s polling routine by creating a structured address map.
Engineers must ensure that the resulting addresses do not overlap with reserved system values.
Boundary Condition
Permanent changes to the identifier are only possible if the offset is stored in non-volatile memory. An xor address offset typically resets to a default state after a power loss.
