Two Channel Switch
Dual-channel multiplexers enable a single master controller to access multiple downstream buses while providing isolation between the branches. The TCA9543A is a bidirectional control switch that connects an upstream channel to two downstream branches. This integrated circuit supports both standard and fast-mode communications.
Interrupt Handling
Peripheral devices must be able to signal urgent conditions to the master controller without waiting for a bus poll. The TCA9543A features dedicated interrupt input pins for each downstream channel and a single interrupt output to the master. This structure allows the master to quickly identify which branch generated the event.
Address Independence
Identical target devices cannot share a single communication line due to address conflicts. Using the TCA9543A allows these devices to be separated into two isolated branches, permitting the master to communicate with each one individually. This separation removes the conflict and simplifies software drivers.
Reset Control
System glitches can sometimes cause communication lines to lock up, preventing any further transactions from occurring. The TCA9543A incorporates an active-low reset pin that allows the master controller to restore the device to its default state and recover from a bus hang. This physical reset capability ensures that the communication infrastructure can be restored to a known state without power cycling the entire board.
