Assembly Duration
Assembly duration standards define the maximum permissible exposure time of moisture sensitive electronic components to ambient factory conditions before reflow. Surface mount components are subject to floor life requirements to prevent moisture induced damage during soldering. The standard specifies a countdown timer that begins when a dry bag is opened and terminates when the boards enter the oven.
Exposure Tracking
Time logs are maintained to record the cumulative exposure of each component lot on the production floor. If the relative humidity in the assembly room exceeds the specified limits, the tracking system automatically reduces the remaining allowed duration. The components must undergo a baking cycle to restore their dry status if the limit is exceeded.
Traceability Network
Traceability of the environmental sensors relies on calibrated thermometer and hygrometer networks across the factory floor. If the sensors drift, the calculated moisture absorption rate will deviate from the true value. Quality inspectors verify the data logs at each shift transition to ensure the environmental history is unbroken.
Process Control
Production managers enforce the limits to eliminate the risk of internal delamination or popcorn defects during soldering. Components that exceed their floor life are flagged immediately in the tracking database to halt further assembly steps.
