Monitoring System
Automated optical monitoring system designed to detect and categorize surface defects on materials produced in a high speed roll format. High resolution cameras in continuous web inspection scan surfaces such as films or foils as they move through a processing line. The system identifies physical anomalies including pinholes and scratches before the material is wound into a finished roll.
Optical Resolution
Sensor arrays must capture data at a rate that matches the line velocity to maintain a consistent spatial resolution. Precise lighting configurations allow continuous web inspection to distinguish between benign surface textures and functional defects. Advanced line scan cameras provide the necessary pixel density to identify submillimetre flaws at speeds exceeding several hundred metres per minute.
Detection Logic
Software algorithms process the incoming stream of image data to isolate pixels that deviate from a learned golden template or a statistical baseline. This analysis in continuous web inspection triggers real time alarms or automated marking systems that flag the location of the error for later removal. Reliable classification requires the system to filter out vibrations and ambient light fluctuations that might generate false positives.
Integration with a factory execution system enables the tracking of defect density across several kilometres of substrate.
Process Feedback
Immediate identification of repeating patterns allows operators to trace defects back to specific rollers or blades. Adjustments made during the run reduce the volume of scrap material generated by a faulty setup. Continuous web inspection provides a documented record of quality for every linear metre of the product.
