Selection Practice
Technical guidelines for the choice and installation of pressure gauges ensure the safety of pressurized systems and the longevity of the instruments. The standard bs en 837-2 defines the environmental and process conditions that dictate the use of specific gauge types, such as those intended for oxygen service or high vibration zones. It excludes electronic pressure transmitters which fall under different regulatory regimes.
Installation Requirement
Correct mounting orientation and the use of siphons or cooling towers protect the gauge from temperature extremes. Inside the framework of bs en 837-2, the installer must account for the height difference between the tapping point and the instrument to prevent hydrostatic head errors. These physical arrangements are verified during the initial system commissioning.
Safety Protocol
Blow-out backs and laminated safety glass prevent injury in the event of a sensing element rupture. Compliance with bs en 837-2 involves checking that the pressure rating of the gauge exceeds the maximum possible system pressure by a specific safety margin. Snubbers or restricted orifices reduce the impact of pressure surges on the internal mechanism.
Metrological Verification
Laboratory verification of the installed unit confirms the accuracy of the reading at the point of use. This process ensures the system maintains its accuracy.
