Buffer Architecture
Dual bidirectional unity-voltage bus buffers isolate physical I2C and SMBus line segments while maintaining signal integrity. System integration uses PCA9515A devices to split heavy capacitive bus loads into manageable segments without protocol modification. Operation supports clock stretching and multi-master arbitration across connected nodes.
Bus Isolation
Internal pass transistors and drive logic isolate capacitance between two bus sides. Placing a PCA9515A device allows system expansion beyond four hundred picofarad bus limits. Output drivers recreate valid low logic levels while maintaining bidirectional signal flow.
Signal Dynamics
Integrated offset voltage drivers prevent internal latch-up conditions when both sides assert low logic levels simultaneously. The PCA9515A introduces internal propagation delay during signal transitions, slightly reducing maximum operating clock frequency. Output low voltage levels on side one are raised intentionally to distinguish internal drive signals from external inputs.
Voltage offsets limit cascading options, preventing direct series connection of multiple identical buffer devices without intervening standard logic buffers.
Compliance Limit
Electrical characterization verifies rise times, fall times, and propagation delays under maximum capacitive loading conditions. Operating supply voltages range from two point three volts to three point six volts across standard industrial temperature ranges. Data sheets state mandatory layout guidelines to minimize stray capacitance on bus pins.
