Port Standard
Standard dimensional requirements govern the design and execution of fluid power ports with metric threads and elastomeric seals. Complying with ISO 11926 1 ensures that heavy duty hydraulic connections are leak free under high operating pressures. This standard defines the exact dimensions of the port and the sealing face.
Mechanical reliability is maintained by preventing seal extrusion under stress.
Hydraulic Porting
Port cavities are machined using specialized form tools to maintain the geometric tolerances required by the standard. In assemblies that follow ISO 11926 1, an O-ring is compressed into a specially designed groove during installation. The thread holds the plug in position while the seal prevents fluid escape.
Torque limits must be observed to avoid stripping the thread or damage to the seal.
Metrological Check
Calibration of the thread gauges and form tools used during machining is necessary to ensure dimensional conformity. Minor deviations in the groove depth or angle will lead to premature seal failure or fluid leaks. Machined components are checked using certified go and no go thread gauges to verify thread pitch and diameter.
Tool wear must be tracked to prevent the groove geometry from drifting outside the permitted tolerances. Test certificates for these fittings must document the surface roughness of the sealing face.
Field Operation
Operating temperature and vibration affect the integrity of the hydraulic connection over long run cycles. Elastomeric seal compound selection must match the hydraulic fluid chemistry to avoid degradation.
