Enclosure Specification
International protection codes classify the dust and moisture seal integrity of electrical housings to ensure reliable operation in harsh environments. Devices designed to meet the ip67 ingress rating must prevent the entry of fine dust and survive temporary immersion in water under specific pressure conditions. This classification is vital for field-deployed sensors where moisture intrusion would degrade the electronic signals.
Verification Testing
Testing requires submerging the sample in water so that the lowest point is one meter below the surface for thirty minutes. This procedure creates a controlled hydrostatic head that tests the resilience of elastomeric seals.
Protective Boundary
Physical degradation of seals through aging or thermal cycling represents the primary long-term threat to the integrity of the enclosure. When seals fail, moisture can enter and create parasitic conductive paths that cause measurement drift. Designers use dual-ring gaskets to provide redundant barrier points and increase the operating life of the sensor assembly.
Calibration Safeguard
Precision calibration must occur under controlled ambient conditions where the enclosure is open, but field performance relies entirely on the sealed housing maintaining a dry internal cavity. Ingress of contaminants after calibration shifts the baseline output of the transducer, rendering the calibration curves invalid. Ensuring the rating remains intact over the service life of the instrument is therefore a fundamental design requirement.
