Technical Document
Technical documents establish the limits for unwanted emissions from laboratory equipment. The iec 61326 1 emc specification covers both emissions and immunity testing. These requirements apply only to devices used for measurement or control and do not extend to generic household appliances.
Regulatory Compliance
Manufacturers must ensure that their products do not interfere with other devices through conducted or radiated energy. Under the iec 61326 1 emc framework, equipment is classified as either Class A for industrial use or Class B for residential environments. Test levels for immunity include electrostatic discharge and electrical fast transients.
Achieving certification allows a product to carry the CE mark in the European Union and demonstrates adherence to health and safety requirements.
Test Methodology
Lab technicians place the device in a semi anechoic chamber to measure the radiated field strength. Compliance with iec 61326 1 emc also requires checking the power line for conducted emissions using a line impedance stabilization network. Susceptibility is tested by exposing the instrument to high strength radio frequency fields.
The device must continue to function within its specified accuracy limits during these exposures.
Documentation Requirement
A formal technical file is compiled to record the results of all measurements. The iec 61326 1 emc report provides evidence of conformity during audits by regulatory bodies.
